amazing stage presence and their overall charismas. Their songs are so distinctly catchy that playing these tunes today still makes people sit up, listen, reminisce and sing along.

But just who are these singers that reached legendary status?

They are none other than certified hit makers, Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, Rey Valera, and Marco Sison. No one can dispute the indelible marks that they have left in the entertainment industry because they are not just recognizable celebrities but respected artists. These four singers continue to leave such deep impressions in the hearts and minds of their fans and listeners that their classics remain to be favorites even now.

Because he has always come across as a dashing debonair, Hajji Alejandro was always best known as the original “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala”. He was the first ever winner of the MetroPop Song Festival and shared the stage with Basil Valdez when they were in the Circus Band. To this day, he is active as a singing artist and as an actor. His hits — Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, Panakip Butas, and Nakapagtataka are all well known and have been covered by artists from different genres.

Perhaps the most active of the four is Rico J. Puno whose luster still shines bright with different gigs not just as a singer but also as a host and an actor. Recently, he played a somewhat meddlesome but lovable father called Daddy V in ABS-CBN’s sitcom, Home Sweetie Home. Currently, he is seen in a recurring role in the top-rating, long-running series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.” He also has more than a dozen movies under his belt and has been part of some of the most popular noontime shows on television including Lunch Date, Happy Yipee Yehey, and Showtime. Rico J is also known as The Total Entertainer and is known for his songs like: May Bukas Pa, Ang Tao’y Marupok, Magkasuyo Buong Gabi, and Macho Gwapito.

Rey Valera has always been known as a soulful singer and a remarkable songwriter. He has also gotten props for being a musical director and a film scorer. But the true showcase of this singersongwriter’s talent shows through because many of his hits continue to be used, as theme songs for many soap operas that eventually become massive hits. Some of these soaps include Maging Sino Ka Man, Tayong Dalawa, and Juan Dela Cruz. Malayo Pa Ang Umaga, and Maging Sino Ka Man are just two of his numerous popular songs. Rey Valera is also very visible on the small screen as a resident judge in Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan.

Every woman who was in her teens in the 80s will never forget the Marco Sison’s smile. His singing career started in the late 70s in the then popular noontime show Student Canteen… and for over three decades, women have continued to fall for his boyishly good looks, his sweet charm and his wonderful voice. His latest album, Isang Pagkakataon, was released in 2012. His popular singles are My Love Will See You Through, Si Aida, Si Lorna, O Si Fe, I’ll Face Tomorrow, Always, and Make Believe.

Although each can definitely hold his own, these four icons have been in demand to perform together in casinos and are known to sell out their show tickets quickly!
